Apparently, Bush is planning to announce a plan to send us to Mars .
I wrote about this in December . If this announcement is made, it is sure to be controversial, since even among people who want to see a manned Mars mission ("Martians"?) there's hardly unanimity about how to go about it. I'm more concerned that the announcement is going to be of the "Someday, we'll go to Mars" variety. A easy promise to make, since by the time the hard decisions have to be made, Bush will be long out of power. I will be most impressed if he sets an aggressive schedule for getting there, and actually budgets the money for it. Update: Backup Brain says much the same thing, but with more eloquence.
