You call this a reception?

Today was the main day of the conference. We had a full day of manning the booth, schmoozing clients, giving presentations, and pretty much everything except eating a healthy, balanced meal. So, with some relief, 5:30 arrived, and we closed the booth and schlepped up to the reception. What do we find? No Food.
Well, more correctly, there had been food, but there wasn't any longer. You see, the reception started at 5:30, the same time the show floor closed. We took an extra ten minutes to move the computers from our booth up to our hotel rooms (don't trust show floor security), and by the time we got to the reception, all the food was gone. Except for the really weird dips which nobody dared taste, and there was nothing to dip into it anyway.

Apparently, the sponsors of the reception (a company which really does not know how to earn the good will of prospective customers) had ordered that the buffet trays not be refilled. So, once the first batch of food was gone, that was it. Nada.

I guess maybe 10% of the people actually got something to eat. The rest of us had to stare at the empty buffet platters and wonder if more was coming. You already know the answer.

This makes for one very grumpy blogger.

As it happens, I've known the CEO of the company which sponsored the reception for many years. If I happen to run into him tomorrow, I'll say, "So, I guess that merger's not going so well after all." Loudly. Because if the merger was going well, they'd be able to afford enough food.

And I would be a lot happier.
