War on Terror Disconnect

An observation related to my Two Americas article from a couple months ago, and inspired by this David Brooks column from the New York Times.
Our political leaders insist that we are at war. They repeat this mantra over and over and over. We have a president who describes himself as a "War President." Despite this, a big chunk of the electorate doesn't really believe we are At War.

Why?

Maybe because the leaders themselves, the same ones who insist that we are At War, do not behave as though we are At War.

Actions, as always, speak louder than words.
