We need a new political party in this country. Sure, I know that this history of third parties in the U.S. is littered with carcasses of good intentions which never amounted to anything, but consider: When the two major parties have become so polarized that meaningful debate consists of calling your opponents "liars" "traitors" or worse..... When nobody seems to be able to agree on what the important issues are, much less where to find common ground.... When the idea that "persons of good faith can honestly disagree about issues of substance" has gone out of style.... It is time to form the party of the Radical Moderates!
The Radical Moderates! (slogan: "We want moderation, and we want it now!") support an agenda of extreme compromise and aggressively pushing the country to the center of the political spectrum. Radical Moderates! are known to use aggressive tactics to win elections, tactics which both Democrats and Republicans consider unacceptable. Some of our unorthodox practices include: * Debating issues, and refusing to engage in ad hominem attacks. * Changing our minds when presented with new facts which counter earlier beliefs. * Treating our political opponents with respect and a presumption of good faith. Are you a Radical Moderate!? You might be if: * You often see both sides of the same issue (even if you agree with only one side). * You care more about our roads, schools, economy, and security than about scoring points against the other side. * You have been known to hold your nose while voting. * You would rather have an honest politician you disagree with than a corrupt one you support on the issues. I am proud to be a Radical Moderate! If you support the Radical Moderate! agenda, you can show your support by participating in one of our upcoming political events: * The Leisurely Stroll through a Suburb of Washington * Our contest for the Most Nuanced Political Slogan (100 word max.) [My entry: "On Average, We're Better Than the Median" in support of a reasonable-but-not-excessive tail to the wealth distribution curve.] * Sign our "Draft Alan Greenspan for President" petition (campaign slogan: "We Don't Understand Him Either, But He Knows What He's Doing").
